Brumbies Rugby have developed a intergrated and successful Pathway Program underpinned by our Junior Rugby Academy. In 2016 over 20 players gained selection in Australian squads culminating in three players gaining Super Rugby Contracts who were graduates of the Academy. With specialist coaching and education in the areas of Technical, Tactical, Nutrition and Strength & Conditioning the core programme is delivered by the Brumbies Junior Rugby Academy for players in both formats of the game (15-a-side and 7s).
The Brumbies Junior Academy will also align to the ARU’s new ‘Elite Player Pathway” beginning in November 2016.
The Academy provides a select and small group of players in each age group the extra opportunity to further prepare and develop for National competitions in 2016/7.
This pathway has been designed and implemented by the Brumbies elite coaching staff to build a stronger pathway into representative rugby and beyond. This program is an excellent opportunity to enhance your rugby from a technical skills and physical development perspective.
All Inductions and trainings will be held at the Brumbies HQ, University of Canberra
The Academy contains three Tiers of Development
- Tier 3 – Under 15 &16 – Introduction – (JGC 15’s and 16’s)
- Tier 2 – Under 17 &18 – Intermediate – (U17 7’s and ACT Schoolboys)
- Tier 1 – Under 19 & 20 – Advanced – (Super 20’s)
It should be seen as a privilege to be part of the Junior Academy and selection has been determined by player’s current rugby ability. Continued involvement in the program will be determined by the players;
- Individual participation and progression,
- Positive attitude and discipline to the program,
- Aptitude to work and train hard.
Players may be asked to enter or leave the program dependent upon the above criteria.
Players will undertake annual training programs specifically periodised for each stage of the season. Training programs will target:
Rugby skill and game development
- Principles of Rugby
- Core Skills
- Individual/Position and Unit Specific Skills
- Performance assessment
- Physical development
- Strength (core competencies)
- Speed & Agility
- Aerobic conditioning
- Introduction to Life Skills including Illicit Drugs in Sport Education
- Nutrition & Hydration, Injury Prevention and Recovery
The training programs will be integrated into school, club and representative programs as best possible. It is the intention of the Program to complement the various development and competition programs that the players are involved in, not to take them away.
